Flower Pillow

I've seen these flower pillows around lately, they are kind of pricey, and they look easy to make. So I decided to try one for myself, and guess what, they are soooo easy to make, it's really ridiculous.

I started with a square pillow form that I've had laying around for awhile. I sewed a quick slipcover out of cream felt to fit the pillow.

Then I drew a flower petal in three different sizes on a piece of paper and cut it out. Then I used the flower petal pattern and started cutting out the shapes on the felt. I felt like I was cutting forever. I didn't count how many I cut, but if I had to guess, I would say 40 of each size.


After I got all the petals cut, I took my glue gun and put a small strip of glue down the bottom center of each petal and pinched the sides together, this gave the petal a little dimension.


After I got all the petals glued, I started to assemble my flower. I started with the biggest petals first and glued the bottom part of the petal right on the pillow making a circle.


I just kept working my way around the circle in a spiral shape gluing the petals on, when I was done with one size I would start the next smaller size until I had a tiny little circle left in the middle of the flower.



That is when I traced my Dr. Pepper can (I can't craft without the Dr.) then I cut out 3 dr. pepper circles.


I took each circle and folded it in half, then I folded it in half again, then I hot glued it together. When I got all three circles glued, I glued them together. Then I glued the three circles right into the center of the flower. After I was all done, my 8 year old son asked me where I bought that pillow at...priceless.

Jute Fruit

I got my new Ballard Design Catalog in the mail a few days ago and fell in love with their giant jute covered pears. But the price was terrible! So off to Michael's I went. I took my 40% off coupon and got a bag of faux pears. They were 12.99 and with my coupon they were only around 7.80 for a bag of five! Awhile ago when I was at Hobby Lobby I grabbed some rolls of jute. Jute is really cheap, like 400 feet for 2.69 cheap.


To begin, you will need to use your hot glue gun and put a little glue at the top of the pear, by the stem and just start wrapping the jute around. You will just need a little glue every so often, just make sure you wrap the jute tightly without any spacing.


My three year old likes to pose, even if it's while holding a pear. I ♥ her.



I also jute wrapped some styrofoam balls. Next, I'm going to jute wrap one of my kids...

Basket Shelf

A lot of times when I am doing my boutiques, I have women say to me, "I just don't have good ideas." And, "How would I use that as a decoration in my house?"


So the other day, I ran across some old metal baskets. And I know that when you normally see a basket, you think of it holding something, etc. Well when I saw these baskets, I thought of how cool it would look above my front door holding decorations.


So, I asked my husband to hang up the basket over the door. He just used two nails and hung it up. It was so easy.
Next, I got out my ladder and started to decorate. First, I cut some cream fabric for the bottom. Then I rolled up some coordinating fabric and stacked them on top of each other. Then, I put an old short glass pitcher in the basket, I filled it with red berry sprigs. Then I found a chipboard "W" and covered it in jute. That was it, so easy. And, I LOVE it!


I always try to think outside of the box when decorating...it's fun!

Suitcase Table

I've been seeing these is quite a few magazines lately, and they are really expensive. And I thought, hmmm, I can totally make those.

So off to the D.I. I went. I found the suitcases for around 5.00-6.00 each. Sorry I only took a picture of one. I don't know why.



Then I went to Lowe's to buy table legs. These were $4ish each. Then I painted them and distressed them.



I drilled through the biggest suitcase and made holes big enough for the screw to fit through that was on the table legs.


Next I screwed the table legs into the newly drilled holes. Then I used a bolt to secure them in the suitcase.



Then I repeated the same steps with the next suitcase, instead of bolting the suitcase to the table legs, I bolted it to the first suitcase.
Voila!! Perfecto!!

Old Bread Box

I found this little beauty at the D.I. for only 2.00. It was the ugliest thing I had ever seen. When I brought it home my husband thought I was insane. I really should have taken a before picture, but I really wanted to get the thing sanded and the u.g.l.y. glass out of it pronto! The glass by the way was etched with bread written really "fancy", because bread is sooo fancy. Anyway, so I broke the glass out and started to sand away the dirt and grease that was caked on it.



Once it was all sanded and distressed, then I covered it with a special walnut colored stain.


Then wipe off the stain and let dry.


When it was completely dry, I used my staple gun and put in some chicken wire where the glass once was. Much better...
