Give A-Way Winner!!

Okay, so for my first give-a-way I am having a drawing and there are 4 ways you can enter. First, you can follow me. Second, post this on facebook. Third, post this on your blog. And fourth, leave me a comment and tell me what your favorite craft is that I have done so far on my blog. I will do the drawing at 8:00pm Sunday (the 13th). Personal Chalk Boards

I love these! You can take them to church with you for your kids to play with (quietly), or you can hang them by your phone or by your door to take messages on. Just change the ribbons to match a certain room.

So to begin, let's head off to our favorite little store (D.I.) We will be looking for clip boards. You will pay anywhere from .75 to 1.50. Depending on who is doing the tagging that day.


Then you will need to go to Lowe's and get yourself some chalkboard paint. Warning** It is expensive! I paid 15.00 for one quart. But, it will last you a LONG time.


Then you will need to wander around your husbands wood shop until you find a small enough piece of wood (3/4 of an inch wide by 8 inches long) that you can glue onto your clipboard to hold your chalk. Or you can go to Hobby Lobby and buy a package of them for 2.50.

Once you get all of your supplies ready, it's time to start painting. Get your clipboard completely covered and let dry. After approximately 2 hours, do a second coat. When your second coat is dry, you will need to take some chalk, and turn it on its side and rub it all over the chalkboard. This will prime it and make it so that you can erase your chalk. If you miss this step and go straight to writing, well lets just say that I hope you like what you wrote, cause it will always be there. After that, take a dry rag and wipe off the entire board. Then you can glue your little chalk holder onto the board. Last but not least, add your ribbon and make it beautiful!! Great job! You are talented!!

Apothecary Jars

I know you've all seen these awesome jars in all the trendy magazines lately. I love them! You can change the look for different seasons and holidays by adding ribbon or items inside.


First thing you need to do is hit the D.I. This time you will be looking for wooden candle holders. You will pay around 1.00 for these. You can also get unfinished at Hobby Lobby for around 2.50. I also got the jars at hobby lobby. They were 3.00.



You will also need to get some wooden spindles from hobby lobby as well. They are $1.47 for 5. There are tons of different styles to choose from.


Once you get all of your items ready, you will need to paint all of the wood. Spray paint works best, and of coarse red always looks best ♥. And honestly the cheaper the spray paint, the better the affect (my opinion) I always get the cheap .97 walmart cans. They are just easier to distress. So, spray all the wood and let dry. Once dry sand off until you reach the desired distressed look. Then glaze. I just use my husbands stain that he always has in his wood shop. Then again, let it dry. Once dry you will need to get your glue ready. See the previous post for different glues. I made a mistake on this and used the gorilla glue, and this is what happened...

so now that will just have to be the back :)

I filled my jars with dried split peas and then put in a simple candle. Fabulous.

Hurricane

I've been noticing these a lot lately in magazines and in stores, but I also noticed that they were pretty pricey. And I am all about having 3's of everything (I know, I'm weird.) Anyway, I knew that if I had to purchase three of these, I might get in trouble. So, I figured out how to make them myself.



So first thing...off to the Dollar Store, where I found these glass vases.




Next, the D.I. I was looking for glass candle holders. You can find them there for about .75.




So next is the glue. I went to Lowe's and asked the friendly lady there what type of glue to get. She told me that either the Gorilla glue or the two part epoxy would work great. So I bought both. I tried both. I don't love both. The gorilla glue didn't dry clear and it bubbles when it dries. The epoxy, worked good. But it smelled like a skunk! So, next time I use the epoxy, it will be outside for sure. After I chose my glue, I used a toothpick to put some on the top of the candle holder and then a little on the bottom of the vase, then I just stuck them together! So simple, and sooo cheap!!

Fabric Flower Spring Wreath

Such a darling wreath! It would be so easy to change out the color of the ribbon depending on the season or the holiday.




First you get an old sheet and cut it into strips about 2 to 2 1/2 inches wide. You will need to get a wreath as well. I got mine at the dollar store. You can get any size you want. I forgot to take a picture of the wreath at the beginning, so I turned it over so you could see what type of wreath it is.






To make the flowers, you just need to make a knot at the end of one of your fabric strips. Then just start wrapping and twisting the fabric around the knot. Don't forget to hot glue it as you go. There really is no wrong way to do this.
Once you get your flower done, hot glue it onto the wreath form. You can put as much or as little as you like. Once you are pleased with your wreath, then just add ribbon and hang on your door,then sit back and look at your masterpiece!!
